Project Sainte-Marguerite 1 A

The SM-3 generating station and its associated reservoir located 70 km upstream from SM-1 on the Sainte-Marguerite River contributed to the regulation of river flow as soon as it was commissioned by Hydro-Québec in the spring of 2003. The regulation water has significantly improved the economic potential of the SM-1 site.

Since 1997, Hydromega had anticipated this growth in hydraulic potential by studying the increase in capacity of the SM-1 plant. The site is ideal for future growth of development capabilities, because the large infrastructure already exists (dam, spillway, water intakes, access to the site …).

Sainte-Marguerite I-A was commissioned in June 2002. The plant comprises two fully-regulated vertical Kaplan units of 11 MW. Located on both sides of the Francis (Sainte-Marguerite I) turbine, these two units will produce up to 106 million kWh per year.
