The power station, which was built in 1937 and renovated in 1951, was used for a long time to produce electricity for the village and was abandoned in ruins several years before its acquisition. Hydroméga is engaged in the complete rehabilitation of the facilities, work was carried out from November 1987 to June 1990. The refurbishment included major repairs to the civil engineering facilities, the reconstruction of the three turbines / alternators and the replacement of the electrical energy installations.
The Mont-Laurier hydroelectric generating station, with a capacity of 2,725 kilowatts, is located on Rivière-du-Lièvre in the heart of the city.
